Change Picture Size, Resolution & Aspect Ratio on Samsung Phone

Picture size or resolution is a hidden useful feature of the stock Camera app on your Samsung and Android mobile phones. Sometimes you can not ignore the image size or resolution. For example, when you send photos through a chat app, IM, email to share with your family and friend, you may want to reduce down the photo size so you can save your cellular data and time. Many smartphones have the capability of adjusting picture size in Camera settings, such as Samsung, LG, HTC, Lenovo, iPhone, Nexus, Motorola and so on. In this guide, we will be using a Samsung Galaxy phone in the demo to show you how to change photo size on Samsung and Android phones. When you change the photo size setting, you will change image solution and sometimes image aspect ratio at the same time. You can change pictures to bigger or smaller size or resolution according to your own needs.

You don’t always need to use the highest image resolution when shooting pictures using your mobile phone. Sometimes to take photos in moderate size or resolution you can save a lot of storage space on the phone and they become easier to share, backup and transfer. FYI, you can transfer photos from Samsung to computer through Bluetooth. If you want to switch mobile phone and transfer over all personal photos, you can check out this guide to batch copy all photos and videos from Android to iPhone or vice versa. From above Camera picture settings screen, you can find out the phone we use can take pictures in various sizes, resolutions, aspect ratios including:

  • 8M, 3264*2448p, 4:3;
  • 6M, 3265*1836p, 16:9;
  • 6M, 2448*2448p, 1:1;
  • 3.1M, 2048*1536p; 4:3;
  • 2.4M, 2048*1152p; 16:9

If you plan to print the photos from mobile phone, or plan to edit it on computer, we suggest you to use higher resolution. If you want to share on social networks, such as Twitter, Facebook, use a image resolution as low as possible. It is same with videos. Samsung galaxy grand prime has different variants. In this demo, we used a model SM-g5308w with Android 4.4.4. If you are on a different model or OS version, you may see some difference.
