Convert AIFF, AIFC to MP3, M4a or WAV using iTunes

Audio Interchange File Format (AIFF) is an audio file format developed by Apple. It is widely used on Mac computers. Both iTunes and QuickTime players can play AIF, AIFF, AIFC files directly. iTunes can even allow users convert these AIF, AIFF, AIFC files to MP3, AAC, M4A or WAV. So if you want to share the AIF, AIFF or AIFC file with someone who is using a Windows computer, Android device, you can convert them to MP3, AAC or WAV format first.

Mac users can convert AIFF and AIFC files directly using the built-in audio converting tool. Check out this guide to convert AIFF AIFC to AAC M4A on Mac for more details. If you need to convert AIFF and AIFC files to MP3 or WAV, you would need iTunes. Here is how to do it.

Step 1. Adding AIFF, AIFC to iTunes

Download and install iTunes if not yet when you are on a Windows PC. We are using iTunes for Windows in this demo. Run iTunes on your PC or Mac. Add the AIFF, AIFC files to iTunes library. Click File >> Add File to Library…, browse to the AIF, AIFF, AIFC files, select and add them to iTunes. After that you can find them in the Songs library in iTunes.

Step 2. Set iTunes Encoder

In iTunes for Windows, Choose Edit >> Preferences >> General >> Importing Settings. From the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the encoding format to MP3 Encoder, AAC Encoder or WAV Encoder. Then click OK to save the settings.

Step 3. Convert AIFF, AIFC to MP3, M4a or WAV using iTunes

Select the AIFF, AIFC files in iTunes library, click File >> Convert >> Create AAC Version, Create MP3 Version or Create WAV Version. After that a new copy of the AIFF, AIFC files will be saved to iTunes library as.M4A, .MP3 or .WAV files.
