Convert MOBI to iPhone books

MOBI and EPUB are the two of most popular ebook file formats for mobile users. Mobi is the book format for Amazon Kindle, EPUB is the best format for iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets. In a previous article, we demonstrated how you can convert ePub books to Kindle formats using a free book conversion tool. If you have .mobi files on your computer that you want to read with the Books application on your iPad iPhone, or downloaded some mobi books on iOS device and can’t see to read the mobi books using Books app on iPhone or iPad, you may convert them to EPUB format first. Alternatively you can also download and use a third-party mobi reader app on iPhone iPad.

Converting MOBI to EPUB for iPhone iPad

Get the free ebook converter – Calibre. It is open source and cross platform. We will use its Windows version in this demo. You can also download and use it on Mac and Linux.

Run the ebook converter program on your computer. Click the “Add books” icon in the top left-hand corner to choose and add the MOBI books you like to convert.

Click to highlight the book from the main-window list and then click the “Convert books” button from the top toolbar.

The output format should be EPUB by default so you don’t have to choose a different book format. Choose EPUB from the Output Format if you have already changed the Preferred Output Format under Preferences.

From the left panel, click to switch to the Page Setup tab. Here you can select “Output Profile.” Set the output profile to iPad, this will work for iPhone as well. This setting will optimizes images for larger screens. If the images in the book are too small to start off, this setting won’t help you optimizes images, but it won’t hurt either. This setting is optional.

Hit the OK button to convert mobi books to epub format. All source and converted books can be found in the Calibre library folder. You can get the path to the library folder by clicking the calibre icon on the main toolbar above.

Other than iTunes, you can simply use Calibre Content Server, email or other tools to send the books from Calibre to iPhone or iPad. Check out this guide about Calibre to iPhone iPad book transfer via Content Server.
