Convert videos to black and white in iMovie on Mac

Almost all cameras nowadays will shoot photos and videos in full color. In some cases however we may need to convert them into the classic black and white files. For example, you can make aged photos from your color photos by converting them to black and white. In this article, we are going to share with you how to create black and white videos on computer. Fortunately this can be done easily using the iMovie app which is bundled with the Mac OS. So you can convert B&W videos on Mac without any third-party media editors.

Convert Black & White Videos using iMovie on Mac

Run iMovie from the Launchpad on Mac. On the top menu bar, select File > Import Media to find and add source video file to the editor.

The imported video clips can then be found in the media library of iMovie. You need to drag and drop it from the media library at the upper left section to the timeline or storyboard at the lower section of iMovie. Meanwhile you will be able to play the added video clip in the built-in player in the upper right corner. Above the video player, you’ll see the toolbar with various useful tools, such as auto enhance, color balance, color correction, cropping, stablization, volume, noise reduction and equalizer, speed, clip filter and audio effects. Click the ‘Clip filter and audio effects’ option. Choose Black & White from the Clip Filter box. Then play the black and white video using the built-in movie player in iMovie.

Finally go to File menu, choose Share, export the B&W video to your computer or share it to your social networks.

In iMovie for Mac, you can click the Color Correction, then adjust saturation to make the video more or less colorful.
