Create Ad Hoc WiFi hotspot in Windows 10

If your PC has internet connection via a wired router, you connect your computer to router using Ethernet cable, you can turn your PC into a mobile hotspot or Wi-Fi hotspot to share your internet connection with other devices like PC, Mac, smartphones and tablets. Create Ad Hoc Wireless Connection in Windows 10

To create Ad Hoc wireless connection on Windows computer and share your internet connection between PC and mobile phones are very easy although not very intuitive. To do that, run the Command Prompt as administrator on your PC, then type in below command and press Enter.

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=betterhostreview.com key=betterhost

You will then get response in the Command window like below.

You can change SSID and Key if you want. They refer to your Wi-Fi hotspot or mobile hotspot name and password. Once a new Wireless connection created, you will also need to enter the following command to start this wireless WiFi connection on your PC.

This command to start Ad hoc wireless connection will be:

netsh wlan start hostednetwork

Now you can go to connect your mobile phones, such as Android, Samsung, iPhone, iPad, Sony, LG, HTC, Motorola, Nexus, to the wireless connection on Windows 10 PC and access the web through the mobile hotspot on PC. By doing so, you can share internet connections between computer and mobile phones even when you do not have a wireless routers. This can also save your cellular data on the cell phone.

Remember that the SSID is your hotspot name, the Key is your Wi-fi hotspot password.

When you do not need to use the Ad Hoc WiFi hotspot internet connection in Windows 10, you can run below command to turn off the mobile hotspot in Windows 10.

netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

Sometimes you may be able to create the AD hoc connection and start it in Windows 10, but when you trying to connect to it on a mobile phone, it says the password is incorrect. Try to avoid special characters in the mobile hotspot password, you can use 8 numbers, 8 letters, or both of them.
