Watching videos and movies online is a lot of fun. Sometimes however you may want to get them offline so you can watch the videos locally on the go without the need for internet connection. Some videos are very useful and you may need to refer to them in the future. In this article, I’ll share two common methods you can download videos onto your Mac. It is easy and fast.
Method 1. Download online videos via URL
If you get the URL to the videos, you can directly download them from a web browser or other downloaders tools you have. Unfortunately the actual media file URLs are often hidden or very difficult to find out. You need an advanced program that can automatically find the video links for you. AllMyTube for Mac is a great one. It can help you grab online videos from most websites, like Facebook, Vimeo, DailyMotion, BBC, NBC, Yahoo, ESPN, niconico, FC2, CBS, Lynda, Fox, GyaO, MTV, You Tube, or other X video sites.
It is pretty easy to use. You don’t need to be a tech guy to get high quality movies and videos offline. Go and get the free trial version of the downloader here. The free version of this online video grabber allows users to download 5 videos and/or music. It gives us a good chance to review the software before we buy. No subscription or email required. You just download and install the trial version and start downloading videos instantly.
Browse to the page on which the video you want to get resides in any web browser you prefer, Safari or any third-party web browsers like Chrome, Firefox, etc. Copy the URL link of the page from the address bar. Then hit the Paste URL button at the upper left section of the video downloading tool, it will then instantly analyze the page to find out the video address and download to your Mac. After the trial run, the results exceeded my expectations. The video was downloaded from CNET in just seconds. It was saved as MP4 file which is good, as this file format is widely supported. I can play it on my Mac or other devices without converting it to other formats.
If the downloaded video is not in the format you want, switch to the Convert tab from left side bar to convert it to any audio / video format you desire.
Method 2. Record screen to capture online videos
If something goes wrong with the video downloading, you can use the screen recorder as an alternative. Bring up the video in front and play it in your browser. Then launch the video downloader on your Mac. Click Record Video button from the top. Drag an area over the video player window to start recording the video being played. The video quality may suffer when you trying to record HD videos online. It works like any other screen captures and recorders. What makes it very impressive is its ability to record internal sound on Mac. That means instead of recording sound from microphone, it records audio from your computer sound card. As a result the audio track quality in the recorded video does not suffer.
