Depending on the Android version and the device manufacturer, the exact steps to activate Developer Options might vary slightly across various phones or models. Xiaomi Mi phones and Redmi phones are the best selling Android powered smartphones around the world. Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco phones are running the MIUI firmware, Xiaomi’s custom Android interface. Xiaomi MIUI is based on Android with deep customization. Thus there might be slight variations based on the specific phone model and the version of MIUI running on your phone.

Determine MIUI version on Xiaomi & Redmi first
Since different MIUI versions have different settings and designs. You may need to find out your MIUI version on Xiaomi & Redmi before you can turn on Developer options or turn on USB debugging mode on them.
Tap on Settings on Xiaomi or Redmi mobile phone, then scroll down to the bottom and select About Phone or About device.
Now you open the details of your mobile phone device, including model number, Android version, MIUI version, CPU, RAM, Internal memory, baseband version, kernel version, build number, etc. Look for an option named MIUI version or MIUI build number.
Generally speaking, to turn on Developer Mode or Developer Options on Android phone, you can tap on the MIUI version or build number for 7 times in a roll. However it is not always the same for all Android phones. Xiaomi is one of the phones that use different ways to enable Developer Options.
Part 1. Enable Developer Options on MIUI 14, 13, 12
Go to Settings on your phone. From the general Settings screen, tap on About Phone. Find the MIUI version and tap on it seven times until the “You are now a developer” notification appears on your screen.
Go back to the main settings screen. Scroll down until you find Additional Settings. Tap on it to access more settings and options. You should find Developer Options entry from there. Tap to open the Developer Options and touch the toggle to active it on your Xiaomi, Redmi or Poco mobile phone. After that you should find more extra options and settings under the Developer Options menu.
Part 2. Enable Developer Options on Xiaomi & Redmi which is on MIUI 8, 9, 10, 11
Open Settings on your Mi phone, tap My device >> All specs >> MIUI version. Just tap the MIUI version for 7 times until you see the message saying you are now a developer.
Go back to Settings home screen, scroll down to the System & Device section, choose Additional settings >> Developer options, you can then enable the developer option, USB debugging and other advanced options on Xiaomi or Redmi phones that are running on MIUI 11, MIUI 10, MIUI 9, MIUI 8.
Part 3. Enable Developer Options on Xiaomi & Redmi with MIUI 6, MIUI 7
- Go to Settings >> About Phone >> MIUI version.
- Tap on “MIUI version” for 7 times until developer mode appears. You’ll see the “You are now a developer” message appears on screen.
- Now go to Settings >> Additional Settings >> Developer Options, touch the toggle to enable Developer Options.
Part 4. Activate Developer Options on Xiaomi & Redmi on MIUI 5
- Go to Settings >> About Phone >> Android version.
- Tap on “Android version” for 7 times until developer mode appears. You’ll see the “You are now a developer” message appears on screen.
