Erase power lines, telephone wires from photos using Photoshop for Mac

It is annoying to take a landscape image with power lines, telephone wires hanging in the air. Photoshop provides various tools we can use to remove power lines, telephone wires from our photos. Today, we will show you how to easily remove power lines with Photoshop using the Spot Healing Brush Tool. Not familiar with Photoshop? No problem. With this the Spot Healing Brush Tool, erasing power lines from a photo is easy as clicking a switch. No learning curve or graphics skills required!

Notes:

  • We will use Photoshop for Mac in this demo. If you are a Windows user, you may find slight difference in appearance. But the same retouching technique should work almost the same.
  • Duplicate the original photo in File explorer on PC or Finder on Mac, we are going to edit its copy other than the original version instead.

Removing power lines, telephone wires from photos using Photoshop

Launch Photoshop on your computer. Drag and drop the photo from your desktop or Finder to the image editor. Go to the layers panel at the bottom right corner of Photoshop. Hit the Create a New Layer button, which is between the Create a New Group and Delete Layer buttons, to create a new layer above the Background layer. We will be working on this new layer.

Choose Spot Healing Brush Tool from the tools panel one the left side. You will then find the available options for the current tool at the top. Optionally enlarge or shrink the image on the canvas. Then choose a brush size about the size of the power line or telephone wire. Click to expand the parameters panel, drag the size bar left or right to make it smaller or bigger. Click to enable Sample All Layers option so Photoshop will be able to clone on to the blank layer.

Now you can left click and hold, then draw over the power lines, telephone wires you want to erase. Or press down the touchpad and drag your finger to draw on the canvas. Release your finger, the power lines, telephone wires below the line you draw will be erased.

If you hold down the Shift key, then click, hold and drag, you can draw in a straight line. This works best when you erase straight power lines or telephone wires from images.

Repeat the above steps to clear all power lines, phone wires, spots, any other unwanted objects from your photo, Then save the photo or export the edited version as a new image file from Photoshop to your computer.
