Find duplicate files on PC

Sometimes you may have backed up the same files several times and want to get rid of the duplicate copies. It is not easy to find the duplicate files from multiple backup copies of folders especially when they are saved in different names and/or file structures. dupeGuru is a free Windows software to scan our hard drive for duplicated files, remove those duplicate files to free up precious space. It has a simple interface that walks us through the process. Check out the details as follows.

The first window you see when you launch dupeGuru is the folder selection window. This windows contains the basic input dupeGuru needs to start a scan:

• Application Mode selection.
  dupeGuru had three main modes: Standard, Music and Picture. Standard is for any type of files.
• Scan Type selection.
  Different app mode comes with different scan types. You can find Filename, Folders, Contents in the Standard mode; Filename, Filename – Fields, Filename – Fields (No Order), Tags, Contents in the Music mode; Contents and EXIF Timestamp in the Picture mode.
• Folders to scan.
  Click + button to add a folder or drag them to the list.

Click Scan button at the bottom right corner to start scanning for duplicate files on your computer. After that, you’ll see a list of duplicate files arranged into groups, and you can select which ones you want to remove. dupeGuru Results opens in a new window. Although you can just click on Mark > Mark All and then Actions > Send Marked to Recycle bin to quickly delete all duplicate files in your results, it is always recommended to review all duplicates before deleting them. To help you reviewing the results, you can bring up the Details panel. You can easily view previews of them and other information such as file name, folder, size, dimensions, match percentage, etc. If you don’t have time to process all the duplicate files, you can click File > Save Results to save it and resume the work the next time. Or choose File > Export to HTML or Export to CSV so you can continue from where you left anytime you like.
