iTunes cannot locate the CD Configuration folder windows pc

After the upgrade to the latest iTunes version 12.7.0.166 on my Windows 10 PC, I encountered the above error. I found there is one folder named ‘CD Configuration‘ placed in C:\Program Files\iTunes\. However I had iTunes on my second hard drive D. Because I want to keep more free space on drive C as it is my system drive. From the date and time stamp, I can see this iTunes CD Configuration folder was created the same day I upgraded iTunes. Guess the iTunes installer ignores my current custom iTunes installation folder and places the CD Configuration folder in its default location. Is this a bug of the current iTunes installer? Luckily the error message reveals the actual error so we can easily fix the problem.

Note that iTunes creates very big backup files. If you use iTunes on a Windows 10 computer, go to check your iTunes backup files in Windows 10, and see how much space the iTunes backup files used. You may consider changing iTunes backup location to another disk on Windows PC if you need to reclaim more storage space on your Windows system drive.

So on my PC, the CD Configuration and my iTunes installation are on different hard disk. After I copied the CD configuration folder from my C drive into the iTunes folder on D drive, the above error disappeared. So anyone who also encounter this problem, double check your iTunes installation location and CD configuration folder location, the latter should be a sub-folder in the iTunes root directory.

  1. thanks a lot, would help if you can give a pointer to where to find the CD configuration folder though. I know, but many readers will not.

  2. I just installed iTunes to a different disk drive and had the error happen, The CD configuration file was on my OS drive. I moved it, as you suggested and that cleared up the error.
    Thank you
