The new edition of the PlayStation console, PS4, will come with a new edition of the PlayStation Eye camera that has so far not been widely used by consumers. In another post, we introduced its new social share button which helps gamers easily capture screenshots, record game videos on PS4.
In an announcement, Sony official said its new PlayStation 4 Eye camera incorporates two high-sensitive cameras which “can recognize the depth of space precisely” and an array of four microphones can accurately detect sound and source origination.
Sony’s PlayStation 4 Eye has two cameras each with a max resolution of 1280 x 800, four microphones and a field of view of 85 degrees, and all of these aspects work together in new ways. The new PlayStation 4 Eye is capable of facial recognition allowing users to login to their PS4 and detecting current PlayStation Move controllers “more accurately than ever.” See tech specification of PS 4 cameras here.
The cameras will triangulate the 3D space, recognize gestures, enable Kinect-style body tracking and will work with Move functionality embedded in the DualShock 4 controller. Sony’s goal is for players to be able to snap 3D pictures and video and store it on the PS4.
Below is the official comment from Shuhei Yoshida, the CE Worldwide president.
PlayStation®4 Eye, a newly developed camera for PS4 incorporates two high-sensitive cameras that have wide-angle lenses with 85-degree diagonal angle views which can recognize the depth of space precisely. This enables PlayStation®4 Eye to cut out the image of the player from the background, or to grasp players’ position in front and behind, further broadening the ways to enjoy games. Incorporated four microphones are also capable of accurate sound detection and source origination. In addition, users will be able to login to their PS4 with face recognition and are capable of using their own body movements or voices to enjoy games more intuitively. Furthermore, PlayStation®4 Eye senses the color of DUALSHOCK®4′s light bar to judge the positions of multiple players, and set characters in the same positions or let a character talk to a particular player, enabling players to enjoy games in new way. PlayStation®4 Eye also supports PlayStation®Move motion controller. It detects the motion of PS Move more precisely, and reflects players’ in-game motion more accurately than ever.
