Speaking of audio recording on Mac, you may think of Quicktime Player which is built-in with the Mac OS and able to record movie from webcam, record screen videos, and record sound from Microphone. It however won’t let you record Mac system audio. In order to record internal sound from Mac, you will need third-party audio recording programs. In a related article, we have showed you how to record screen video and system audio with Quicktime in the help of a third-party video converter and recorder. In this tutorial, we will show you another quick way to record system audio from your Mac, not its microphone, using a popular screen capture program called Snagit. This is an advanced screen capture software with built-in image editing and screen recording.

Launch Snagit from the Launchpad on Mac. The capture editor opens automatically. Click the Capture button at the top left corner to open the Capture window.

To record internal sound from Mac, turn on the “Record System Audio” option. If it was the first time you enable this feature, you’d be asked to install the TechSmith Audio Capture Component on your computer.

Confirm the install and you will be guided through the steps necessary to install this software on your Mac. In the installation process, when you see the “System Extension Blocked” notice, open Security & Privacy System Preference to enable the extension. After that you’ll be able to record sound from your Mac, such as alert sounds and audio from your internal speakers using Snagit video recorder.

The captured screen recordings will be saved as MP4 files on your Mac. You can play them using Quicktime Player or other media players you have.
