Remove image background with Paint 3D in Windows

Sometimes you may want to make image background transparent when you merge two or more pictures into one, or extract objects from photos to use them in your designs so you can place the object on a different background or incorporate it into a larger design.

On Windows computers, we have Paint as the image editor. It however can’t help us extract objects from images or delete background from pictures. Fortunately, Microsoft provides a redesigned version of the classic Paint app which is called Paint 3D. You can download it for free from Microsoft Store. This image editor can help us easily turn white background transparent, make background of images transparent or extract objects from photos.

You can find the Paint 3D from Windows Start menu or do a search in the search box from Windows taskbar at your screen bottom. Launch Paint 3D in Windows, the Welcome Screen shows up. Choose New to create a new project in Paint 3D. The Brushes tab opens by default. Switch to the Canvas tab from the top toolbar. Turn on Transparent Canvas from the right pane. See below screenshot.

After that, click to expand the main Menu, choose Insert to add your photo to the image editor. Your photo will be put above the transparent canvas.

Now we need to select the object you like to keep and remove the rest part, its background or background color. Select Magic select, drag in the corners or sides of the blue box to focus on the object you want to keep.

You can mark any unselected areas to add them to your cutout and/or mark unwanted areas to remove them from your cutout. Click Done button, the selected object will be extracted from its background.

Now the object is separately from its background. They are now two independent layers above the canvas.
