Save WeChat Photos and Videos on Android phone

WeChat is the most popular chat app for mobile phone users which is cross-platform and feature-rich. You can use it to send and share many different media files, including photos, videos, sights, audio messages, sound recordings and so on. These media files however eat up your storage space on the phone quickly. Thus we need to keep an eye on its storage usage and clear WeChat data on our mobile phone regularly. Before that however we recommend you to back up important data and files, such as the photos and videos. Run WeChat for Android on your phone, go to the Chats screen, open the chat or conversation with whom you have exchanged photos or videos. You can tap on the photo or video to view or play it in full screen. Then press and hold on the image or video until you get the pop-up menu like below.

This can help you save photos and videos from WeChat to mobile phone one by one. If you like to batch download or save WeChat media files, check out below method. One prominent problem about media download and backup is the Sights. WeChat does not allow you to save or download sights videos on the phone. Batch Save WeChat Photos and Videos to Android phone

If you have many media files in WeChat chats want to save, you can touch the More button in the photo or video preview screen as shown in above screenshot. You will then open the All media screen in WeChat. Here you can find all media files in WeChat, including Sights, videos and photos.

Tap the Select button at the top right corner to select multiple or all photos and videos in WeChat. Then touch the Download or Save button at the bottom right corner to save selected photos and videos from WeChat to Android phone in a batch mode. This method can help you download all media files from WeChat in just one go. You may get an warning message or note saying sight can not be saved locally.     1. it seems the batch download is discontinued in WeChat for Android. you can open or enlarge each media file and save them one by one.

    1. generally speaking you can’t see the photo taken date or time. because photos sent via WeChat will be compressed and EXIF data has the details about the picture will be dumped. however if someone sent images in full size without compression through WeChat and these images have the EXIF and photo taking date and time data, you can save the pictures from WeChat to your Android phone, then find them in the Gallery app on your Android phone, you should be able to find the photo date and time in the image properties or details.

  1. Hi – I want to save multiple photos and video from WeChat onto my phone. I get to the point in your process where you say to select those items I want to select, then click the download button in lower right corner. Problem – I don’t have that option. I have the other 3 icons, but not the download icon. Ideas on why that is and how to fix it? Thanks.

    1. it seems the recent update of WeChat for android has removed this option. on the WeChat for iPhone however the feature is still there. you may need to save wechat media files one by one following the first method mentioned in above post.
