Screen capturing is a very useful feature on our mobile phones. For example you can take a screenshot on iPhone to save and share your game score. You can search the route in a map app, then capture your travel route and save it to the Camera Roll, so you can quickly access it from the Photos app without accessing internet. You can capture a plan, schedule, list or any text or image from an email, your memo, calendar or any other apps, then send and share them as image files or just save a copy of any data as image files in your Camera Roll for future reference. Are you using other mobie phones other than iPhone? See this guide to capture screen on Samsung phones and this tutorial to take screenshot on Lenovo phones. iOS devices work differently. In this article, we will teach you two different ways to take a screenshot or capture screen on iPhone with or without the hardware buttons. Check out below instructions and tips.
Method 1. Take screenshot on iPhone using the buttons
You can use the Power and Home buttons combination to quickly capture your iPhone screen. See below figure.
Above image show how you can take a screenshot on iPhone 6. You can also follow this same method to capture screen on more recent iPhone models, such as iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus or earlier iPhone models, like iPhone 5, 5S, 5C, 4S. However on some iPhone models, the Power button is on the top other than on the right side of iPhone. So to take a screenshot on iPhone by pressing and holding the Power button on the top or side of your iPhone then immediately press and release the Home button. You need to press both the iPhone buttons almost at the same time in order to capture screen on iPhone otherwise you will either show your iPhone home screen or show the prompt screen to power off your phone.
You can also follow above tips to take screenshots on iPad or iPod touch as well. The screenshots you took can be found in your Camera Roll or the Photos app on iPhone iPad or iPod touch. You can then send and share the screenshots just like you do with other photos or image files on iPhone.
Method 2. How to take a screenshot on iPhone X?
iPhone X does not come with the Home button. You can press and hold the Power button on the right side and the Volume Up button on the left side at the same time to capture screen on iPhone X.
Method 3. Take screenshots on iPhone using the AssistiveTouch
You can use AssistiveTouch to find and adjust certain settings on your device like Volume, Rotate Screen, Lock Screen, Screenshot and more. It is especially useful when the physical hardware buttons stop working on your iOS device, broken Home button or Power button. To capture screen of iPhone using AssistiveTouch, you will need to enable this option first. There are different ways to turn it on your iOS device.
- Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > AssistiveTouch, then turn on AssistiveTouch.
- Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut and turn on AssistiveTouch.
- Tell Siri “Turn on AssistiveTouch.”
Bring what you like to capture on your iPhone screen. Then touch to open the AssistiveTouch menu on iPhone screen, tap Device >> More… >> Screenshot. Your iPhone screen will flash white and you’ll hear the camera shutter sound (if sound is enabled). You can then open your Camera Roll to find the screenshot captured.
iPhone screenshot vs screen video recording
If you like to capture any activities on iPhone other than still pictures, you can make use of the in-built screen video recording on iPhone.
