Windows key: Switch between the new Windows 8 start screen and the traditional Windows desktop.
Windows Key + D : Switch to the Windows desktop and toggle Show Desktop (hides-shows any applications and other windows).

System Search Shortcuts on Windows 8

Windows key + Q: Opens the Apps search menu on the start screen that you can use to search for applications and programs.
Windows Key + W : Search Settings. Opens the settings search menu on the start screen to search for settings, Windows tools and control panel applets

Windows key + C: This shortcut opens the new Windows 8 Charms Bar and date-time.
