Transfer files between iPhone and Android using Xender

If you own an iPhone and a Windows PC and want to quickly send files from one to the other without cable, Xender is excellent for that. The free wireless transfer app turns your iPhone into a server which can be accessed from your PC or laptop using a web browser. You can then easily upload photos, videos, music and other files from PC to iPhone or download files from iPhone to computer. Here we’ll outline the steps to connect iPhone to Android and share files between them using Xender transfer app.

Download Xender on both iPhone and Android

The transfer app needs to be downloaded and installed on both iPhone and Android phone. You can find and get it for free(with ads) from Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Enable Hotspot on Android

Xender is primarily designed to work over Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi hotspot. When Wi-Fi networks are not available. Xender creates a local Wi-Fi network so you can connect devices without using mobile data or internet connections and send files in the local network quickly and easily.

Before you can copy files from iPhone to Android or the other way around, you should connect iPhone to mobile hotspot created on Android. You can follow instructions below.

Run Xender app on Android phone. We are using Xender app version 13.2.3 which was updated on Dec 10, 2023 in this demo. Tap Transfer button at the middle bottom, then the Send and Receive buttons appear at the lower section of your phone screen.

Tap on the Send option. Xender will create a hotspot and display a QR code on your Android mobile.

The transfer app should be able to activate the mobile hotspot on your phone automatically. However you are prompted to grant required permissions, follow on-screen tips to confirm and turn on the Wi-Fi hotspot.

By default, 2G mode will be activated and you have the toggle to turn on 5G mode for higher speed.

Connect iPhone to Android via Hotspot

Open Xender app on iPhone. We are using Xender for iOS version 7.1.1 which was updated on Dec 13, 2023 in this demo. Tap on the Add button (+ icon) at the top right corner your iPhone screen and choose Connect Android from the drop-down menu. It will then open the camera on your iPhone so you can point and scan the QR code on your Android phone screen. After that, your iPhone should connect to the Wi-Fi hotspot created by the Android device.

Share files between iPhone and Android

Once your phones are connected, you can open the Photos, Audio, Videos or Files tabs or categories from the top of Xender on iPhone to select and send various files from iPhone to Android mobile.

Choose the files you want to share on the sender’s device. After selecting files, tap the Send button to start the transfer. Likewise, navigate to the categories of files from the top of Xender app on Android phone, then select the photos, videos, music and more files, then tap on Send button at the bottom to start the transfer.

  • Remember that both devices need to have the Xender app installed;
  • Both phones should be connected to the same Wi-Fi hotspot created by the Android device;
  • The process may vary slightly depending on the specific versions of the Xender app.
