Transfer files between iPhone and computer using Xender

Get the free file transfer app on to your iPhone from Apple App Store. To use Xender, you typically need to install the app on both the sending and receiving devices. However if you want to share files between your mobile phone and computer, you only need to install it on your mobile phone and use just a desktop browser on the computer. You can use any desktop browser, such as Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, etc.

iPhone and PC connection options

When Wi-Fi is available, connect them to the same Wi-Fi network. Otherwise, enable personal hotspot on iPhone, then connect your PC or Mac to iPhone hotspot.

To setup Personal Hotspot on iPhone, Launch Settings from your iPhone home screen. Tap Mobile Data, then tap the slider to turn it on. Go back to the home menu of Settings. Choose Personal Hotspot, toggle the switch to turn on Personal Hotspot. You might see a pop-up message explaining that enabling Personal Hotspot will turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth temporarily. Here confirm to turn on Wi-Fi to activate the Personal Hotspot option on your iPhone. Once enabled, you can optionally set the name and password for your personal hotspot on iPhone.

You can then connect your computer to iPhone hotspot. Connecting your computer to a mobile hotspot is just like how you connect it to regular Wi-Fi networks. Go the Wi-Fi settings on PC, look for your iPhone’s hotspot name in the list of available networks. Enter the password which you can find from iPhone hotspot section, and connect.

Ad hoc wireless network on PC will also work. It however is more difficult to setup compared to the mobile hotspot on your phone.

Connect iPhone to computer

Run Xender app on your iPhone, tap on the + icon at the top right corner, choose Connect PC from the drop-down menu. You will see a screen like this.

On the Connect PC screen, you get the web address, which starts with http://, followed by your a numerical address (local IP address of the mobile), then a port number.

On your PC or Mac, open a web browser to visit the web address above. You will see the authorization dialog on iPhone immediately. You need to tap on the Accept button on iPhone to allow your computer to access your phone.

Transfer files from iPhone to computer or vise versa

Browse through the Images, Audio, Videos and/or Files categories on the Xender web interface on your PC or Mac to select files, photos, music, videos and documents and download them to your computer wirelessly.

At the top left corner of your desktop browser, click the Upload button to pick up files from your PC or Mac, then upload them to your iPhone. Alternatively drag and drop files from your computer hard drive to the Xender web interface to send files from PC to iPhone.
