VLC for mobile is one of the best media players for mobile phones and tablets. It is open source and supports more video and audio formats than the stock music player and movie players on our mobile devices. Both of them can work independently from the iTunes. We can make use of their built-in file transfer feature to upload videos and songs from our computer to iPhone iPad without iTunes. In this article, we will discuss how you can upload music and movies from computer to iPhone over Wi-Fi using VLC Wi-Fi transfer utility.
Transfer music and videos from computer to VLC on iPhone over WiFi
Other than media sync over USB, you can easily upload files to your iPhone over WiFi via a web page served by VLC on the iOS device. Run VLC on your iPhone, tap on the player icon at the top left corner to bring up its side bar. Find and tap to enable the ‘Share via WiFi‘ option. See below screenshot.
Once you have enabled the Sharing via Wifi in VLC media player on iPhone, you get the local address of your iPhone. It would be something like http://192.168.1.X or http://your-iphone.local. On my iPhone, the VLC Wifi transfer address is http://192.168.1.103 and it could change to something like http://192.168.1.10x. You can then open a web browser on your computer to access this iPhone local IP address. The VLC WiFi upload and download page opens like this.
Upload files from computer to VLC on iPhone
Drop files in the window to add them to your iPhone. Or click on the Add “+” button at the top right corner to use the file picker dialog for audio and video files uploading.
Download files from VLC for iPhone to computer
Just click the media file thumbnail to download it from your iPhone to computer at the lower section of the VLC Wifi upload/download page.
