If you are using a Samsung Galaxy user you may have heard of Wi-Fi Direct or seen it on your mobile phone already. It shows up a lot when we trying to transfer files from Samsung mobile phone to another phone or computer. However before you can make use of Wi-Fi Direct on Samsung phone to share files with other mobile phone users over Wi-Fi, you need to set up the Wi-Fi Direct connection between the two phones or devices. In this guide, we will show you how to use WiFi Direct on Samsung and Android mobile phones.

What is Wi-Fi Direct?
Wi-Fi Direct was initially called “Wi-Fi P2P” or “Wi-Fi peer-to-peer”. It allows the Wi-Fi enabled devices in the same wireless network to be connected directly without a wireless router. Similar to Bluetooth technology, the Wi-Fi Direct technology allows Wi-Fi enabled devices to be connected together peer to peer. Compared to Bluetooth transfer, the data transfer speed and range have been improved with Wi-Fi Direct. You can transfer data faster between two devices that are more distant.
How to enable Wi-Fi Direct on Samsung mobile phones?
It depends on the phone model and android version. Based on our experience, for older Samsung phone models, you can locate it from Samsung >> Apps >> Settings >> Wireless and Network >> More networks or More settings. The Wi-Fi Direct may be listed there.
If you are using a recent Samsung mobile phone model, you can find it from Samsung >> Apps >> Settings >> Wireless and Network >> Wi-Fi or WLAN. See below screenshot which shows where you can find and enable Wi-Fi Direct on Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime. You need to slide to toggle to on to turn on Wi-Fi connection first. However it does not require you to connect to an active Wi-fi network. Then touch the More options button and select Wi-Fi Direct to enable it.
How to connect Samsung and Android mobile phones via Wi-Fi Direct?
Go to enable Wi-Fi direct on the other Android or Samsung phone. Then the phones can scan and find each other. Initiate the Wi-fi direct connection from one device, you will need to confirm the connection on the other phone. After that they will be linked together via WiFi direct and you can go to share files between two phones via Wi-Fi direct.
