Can’t uninstall certain apps on Xiaomi phone

There are various ways you can uninstall an app on Xiaomi phone. The easiest way is to long tap and drag the app icon that you want to uninstall to the Bin icon at the top of the screen. When you’re prompted to confirm the deletion, tap Uninstall button, then the selected app along with all app data will be removed from your Xiaomi mobile phone. You can head to Settings >> Installed apps >> Downloaded, or Settings >> General settings >> Apps >> Downloaded, depending on your phone model. Then find the app you like to uninstall, open its App info page, click the Uninstall button to delete apps from your Xiaomi phone. You can also delete apps from Google Play store, Mi App Store or other Android market you downloaded the apps. Sometimes however you may find certain apps can’t be removed following above methods. They do not have to be virus. On Android devices, there is a type of apps we call them “device administrators”. You can’t uninstall these device administrators like you remove regular apps. If you go to the app manager and open its App Info screen, you will find the Uninstall button is grayed out.

See the check mark besides the device administrators’ names? Touch it to show the details of a device administrator app, you will see a screen with all permissions and rights, see below screenshot.

Different device administrator apps may require different permissions on the phone. Some can erase all data on your phone, change screen-lock password, set password rules, lock phone screen, monitor screen-unlock attempts, set storage encryption, set SD card encryption and so on. To disable device administrator, tap on the Deactivate button. After that you will be able to remove the app from Xiaomi phone as you can uninstall other regular apps on the phone.
