To prevent files from being tampered during the downloading process, many websites provide users the checksum of the files so we can verify the integrity the downloaded files. In this article, we will show you how to check or verify the md5 checksum of a file on Windows 10 computer using the free software – ShareX.
ShareX for Windows is best known as the best free and open source screen capture for Windows.
In fact, it does far more than just a screen recorder. For example, we can also use this free program to record only audio, even system audio on our computer, scan QR code from images, pick up from screen and so on.
Verify MD5 checksum on Windows 10 PC
Get ShareX from previous link, install it on your computer and launch it, you will see its home screen like this.
Click Tools from its left category, choose Hash check from the sub-category.
Click Browse button besides the File path box to select the file you like to check the MD5 sum for. Click the Hash type drop-down menu to select MD5. Finally hit the Start button to start check the MD5 sum and get it in the Result box.
You can also copy and paste a given file’s checksum in the Target box, so the Hash check can verify if they match. The file’s checksum will have to be provided by the same source that you downloaded the file from.
