Windows 10 has the built-in sound recording software, the Voice Recorder. It is clean and easy to use. Your voice recordings will be saved as M4A files automatically. Sometimes however you may need to use your audio recording in a project which requires a different file format. In this scenario, you may either convert the recordings to another format or record the voice again with a third-party recorder app that supports the file output in the format you desire. Adobe Audition is such a software tool that can best suit your needs. In this article, we will show you the basic steps of recording an audio file in Windows 10 and save it as different formats in Audition, such as WAV, MP3, WMA, AIFF, etc.

Just hit the red Record button below the Editor windows in the workspace of Audition, the New Audio File dialog pops up where you can choose a different file name, sample rate, channels and bit depth. You can leave them unchanged unless you have special requirements. Press the OK button to start recording your microphone input directly into Audition. You will see the waveform in the Editor window when you speak. You can pause the recording anytime in the recording process by clicking the Pause button. Press on the same button again to resume your recording. When you are finished, click the Stop button to complete the audio recording in Audition.
Play the recording in Audition and optionally edit the sound recording. When you are satisfied with the recording, go to export it from File menu > Save.
