How to reset Kindle?

Before you sell or give away your Kindle to someone, you may want to remove all your personal content from Kindle. A factory reset is the best way to permanently delete all your personal files and data from Kindle. It will remove all downloaded and transferred content from your Kindle, it will also deregister your Kindle device from the associated Amazon account, any personal configurations, such as Wi-Fi connections will be wiped from the device. As a side note, hard reset or restoring factory settings can also help you fix many Kindle performance issues, like screen frozen or unresponsive.

Backup Kindle before reset

Since factory reset removes all the content from your device, you may need to backup your books and personal documents from Kindle to computer first. You will be able to re-download your apps, purchased eBooks from the Cloud, or directly from your Amazon library, but not those personal books and documents you sent to Kindle device directly without uploading them to your Amazon library.

Here is how you can restore your Kindle to its factory settings. And this guide applies to various Kindle editions, such as Kindle Paperwhite, Basic, Voyage and Oasis.

From the home screen of your Kindle, tap the three dots at the top right corner to open the drop-down menu, then select Settings.

On the Settings screen, select Device Options.

And you will see Reset option on this Device Options screen. Just tap it and you will see a pop up window asking if you really want to reset your kindle. Tap Yes to reset your Kindle paperwhite to its original settings and restart it.
