If you like to change default ringtone on Xiaomi Redi, or use your voice recordings or music as ringtone on Xiaomi and Redmi, this guide is just for you. In this guide, we will show you three different ways to change ringtones on Xiaomi Redmi phones. Please note that the steps might vary slightly depending on the version of MIUI and the specific model of your Xiaomi phone.

Method 1. How to change default ringtones on Xiaomi Redmi?

You can run the Settings app on Xiaomi and Redmi phones, then go to Sound & Vibration, or Sound on some devices. Select Ringtones or Phone Ringtone on some devices.

Accept the Terms and Conditions if you are prompted to do so. You will then get the option to Choose local ringtone or change a different ringtone from the Pre-installed ringtones category. Choose Pre-installed ringtones, the pre-loaded ringtones on Xiaomi or Redmi will then be displayed. You can select any ringtones from there to personalize your phone’s sound or alerts.

If you do not like those system ringtones, tap on Choose local ringtone link, and allow themes to access photos, videos, music and audio on this device when you are request to grant the permission. After that you will be able to select tone or custom sound from the Record, File Manager or Music app. Xiaomi Redmi also allows you to use your own song/music as a ringtone or you can use the Recorder app on the phone to record any sound, voice or music as ringtones.

Method 2. How to set music and recordings as ringtones on Xiaomi Redmi?

Here are the easy steps on how to do that:

  • On your Xiaomi or Redmi mobile, tap Settings > General Settings > Sound > Phone ringtone
  • You will open the Select tone screen, tap Browse button at the bottom of this screen.

    1. you can try to set the same ringtone in different names twice. for example, if you want to set xxxx.mp3 as the new ringtone, go to create a copy of it xxxx-copy.mp3 first, then set them as the new ringtone. it is annoying though.

  1. After the update I am not able to set any new ringtone, Please give me a solution for this problem

    1. so you mean the default ringtone on xiaomi phone can’t be changed? What’s your phone model and MIUI version pls?

      1. I am also facing the same issue. After changing my ringtone, the ringtone is not changing and the previous ringtone is played.
Phone is: Redmi note 3 and
        version is:MIUI8

        1. it seems to be a bug of the MIUI version you are currently using. I have just upgraded to MIUI version 8.6.9.1 Beta. there is no problem of the ringtone update or setting as described above. In the change log i can see a thread about settings fix – ‘fix issue with setting a new ringtone’. generally speaking, bugs may be fixed in new MIUI version. So i think you can upgrade to the latest MIUI version when available, this should fix the ringtones update issue.

        1. I do have this problem on my Redmi phone.
if the previous ringtone is always played on your phone, you can try to set the same ringtone in different names twice. for example, if you want to set xxxx.mp3 as the new ringtone, go to create a copy of it xxxx-copy.mp3 first, then set them as the new ringtone. it is annoying though.
