WeChat is a very popular messaging & calling app for Android, iOS and more mobile OS. It is offered for free by Tencent the same company who developed QQ. Wechat allows you to easily connect with family & friends across countries. It’s the all-in-one communications app for mobile phone users. There are so huge a user base WeChat app has. Sometimes you may have someone keep sending your spam or messages. Sometimes people use Wechat to share a lot of content related to their business, advertisement and more. In an earlier guide, we have showed you the steps to block someone in WeChat on iPhone. Today, we will be using a Samsung Android phone to demonstrate how you can block people in WeChat for Android. The process is almost the same, you can see they differ in appearance slightly.
Before we demonstrate the process of blocking someone on WeChat, we would like to offer some suggestions on how to prevent adding unnecessary contacts on WeChat. This way, you can save yourself the trouble of having to delete or block them later.
How do I prevent someone from adding me on WeChat?
By default, WeChat users can add you to their contact lists using either your WeChat ID or your connected mobile number. To stop others from adding you via WeChat ID or mobile number, run WeChat on your Android phone, switch to the Me tab from the bottom, then select Settings, choose Friends’ Permissions from the Privacy section in Settings. Make sure Require Friend Request is enabled, select Methods for Friending Me, then disable the Mobile option under the Find Me by Searching section so others can’t find you by your phone number. Here you can also prevent others from adding you through Weixin ID, QQ ID, Group Chat, your QR code or contact card.
When someone sends you a friend request in WeChat, you’ll receive a notification, and the request will appear in your chat list or under the “Contacts” tab. Check the user’s profile, if it was someone you don’t like to add as friend in WeChat, ignore or decline the request.
We can receive money in WeChat without adding the payer as a friend first. If you need to pay someone or receive money from someone in WeChat, we can use the Receive Money feature which allow us to send or receive money without adding them as a friend. On the payee’s mobile phone, open WeChat, switch to Me tab, go to Services and then Money. The Use Payment Code displays on your phone screen, here we need to tap on Receive Money below the QR code to switch to the Receive Money QR code. Ask the payer to use his WeChat to scan this code to make payment.
How to block someone in WeChat on Android?
Run WeChat app on your Android smartphone, such as Samsung, LG, Lenovo, Huawei, Xiaomi, Nexus, Motorola. Then open the profile page of the person you want to block. There are different ways you can access and view the Profile of a contact in WeChat. You can go to the Chats tab from the bottom of WeChat on Android phone to find the conversation with the one you like to block, and open his or her Profile in WeChat. You can also go to Contacts tab to open the profile of a contact. Except the above methods, you can also go to Discover >> Moments to find the content shared by this person and access his profile from there. They are different ways to do the same thing. Once you selected certain contact and opened his profile, you an find name of the contact person, his profile image, name, tags, region, posts shared in WeChat and so on. Touch the three dots button at the top right corner to open the contact or profile settings.
This is the screen you can find many options to manage a selected contact in WeChat for Android. For example, you can add the contact to your favorite contact list, you can share this contact with other people, you can report the contact for spam, you can delete a contact in WeChat, you can block people in WeChat, etc. If you are bugging by people in WeChat, you can simply enable the Block option to prevent him/her from sending your messages through WeChat.
This will block contact from sending you messages and seeing your Moments updates. When you block an user in WeChat, you will not receive any messages from them and you will not see each other’s Moments updates. And we won’t be able to find those blocked users from the WeChat Contacts. To find out those blocked contacts in WeChat, go to Me > Settings> Friends’ Permissions > Blocked List. Here you can choose to remove someone from the blocked list, delete him, etc.
Blocking vs Deleting someone in WeChat
Deleting and blackening someone in WeChat is different.
- You can still send messages to him after deletion, but the other party can’t send messages to us, if the other party sends us a message it will prompt the need to send friend verification. After adding someone to blacklist, you can still send messages to him, but the other party can not send messages to us, if the other party sends messages to us, it will prompt: the message has been sent, but the other party rejected.
- After deleting a friend, the chat records with him will also disappear. When you blocked people, your chatting history with them will still be kept.
- After deletion, the other party cannot be found in your Contacts list in WeChat unless you or he/she adds each other again. When you block certain people, he will be moved to your WeChat’s blacklist, and you can re-add the other party as a friend by removing them from the blacklist.
How to prevent someone from seeing your posts in Moments?
Is there any way to allow someone send me direct messages through WeChat but disable his Moments updates as he is using WeChat for Ads? Is it possible to hide my WeChat Moments updates from someone I do not like to share them with? You may need these more flexible options in WeChat other than merely blocking people in WeChat. Scroll up to the contact’s profile settings screen above, you will find a Privacy section. Touch on this item, you will open a new screen on your Android phone as shown in below screenshot.
Here you have the choice to turn on:
- Chats Only: Friend cannot see your Moments, Status and WeRun, etc.
- Hide My Posts: Friend cannot see your updates in Moments.
- Hide His Posts: Me not see the friend’s updates in Moments.

I can block a ‘wechat’ account from a certain person, then this account is blocked, I no receive messages anymore.
But this person then makes a new account and starts to send unwanted messages again, then i block again, but then this person makes a new account again and starts to send messages again, I do not want these messages.
I know I can make a new account and delete my old account, but I do not like this, I have many friends.
Is there another way to stop these unwanted messages from this person, who will make new accounts again and again??
if you use WeChat on Android phone, you can go to Me > Settings > Privacy > Friend Confirmation, turn on this option if not yet, so anyone wants to send you messages must be accepted as friend by you first.
