Run WeChat on PC, you will be prompted to log in WeChat. Click Login button in WeChat for Windows, you will need to confirm your login on phone. After that you will be login WeChat on computer. If it is the first time you login a WeChat account on PC or Mac, you will be required log in using Scan QR Code. You need to use WeChat to scan QR code on computer in order to authorize the connection of your WeChat account from your mobile phone. When you are logged in WeChat for Windows, you will open the chat window in WeChat for Windows. You can start chatting with your WeChat friends right on your computer. Here are the steps to back up WeChat messages from Android to PC:
Step 1. Click the Settings icon from the left bottom corner of WeChat for Windows to open the Settings window.
Step 2. Click Chat Backup in WeChat Settings.
Step 3. Click Backup on Phone button to save your chat history from WeChat to computer.
Step 4. Authorize the chat backup of WeChat from Android phone and you are done. A copy of your chat history in WeChat for Android will be saved to computer.
Now your chat history will be saved to PC. You can go to restore the backups to mobile phone if you like. However the WeChat backup on computer is not readable with other software. You can’t open and read them in Windows or Mac system. And some media files sent or receive in WeChat can’t be saved, such as Sight videos. WeChat 6.3.31 backup failure
If you are using old versions such as WeChat for Android V6.3.27 or earlier, you should be able to back up chat history from Android to PC without following problem. Based on some users’ feedback and our own test, it seems to be some problem with the WeChat for Android version 6.3.31 backup. If you have upgraded WeChat to this version, you may run into below error on PC when trying to backup chat history from WeChat for Android V6.3.31 to Windows computer. We may have to wait for the fix in the next upgrade of either WeChat for Android or WeChat for Windows.

I have a lumia 920 (windows phone), running Cyan (Windows 8.1).
Wechat dropped support for us a few months back, they also removed the feature to backup on from all Windows apps and was not replaced with “chat log migration” or anything else.
I have tried backing up using the software for windows pc but that only works for Android.
I will be changing to an android phone soon and would love to have all my chats backed up and migrated to the new device.
Is there any way i can go about doing this?

i am afraid you can’t migrate windows phone app or app data to an Android device. You can search for a Windows phone backup tool which can back up WeChat data from phone to computer or use WeChat for web to back up data from phone to computer.
Hmm does backing it up to the web enable me to restore it to the new android device later on?
I have searched the store (which has a limited amount of apps already). No such app was found to back up the chat history.

WeChat for web allows you to transfer WeChat data from phone to computer, however it can’t help you restore data to a new device as it can’t back up any wechat messages. Photos and videos transferred from phone to computer can be imported from computer to the new Android phone, but not those Wechat messages.

you can stop the process, restart WeChat for PC program, disconnect and reconnect your phone via USB, make sure to close other phone management software on your computer before you back up WeChat.
Also check if any upgrade of Wechat for PC or Android available.
I got my Samsung galaxy 6 edge stolen and was never able to get it back. I have a new phone now and is the same model. When I downloaded Wechat and entered my account, I noticed all my messages where gone. Is there anyway I can get them back?
the WeChat chat history was stored on your old phone and Wechat does not back up your Wechat messages and files on their server, at least for now. thus you can’t get them back unless you have backed up the WeChat data by yourself before.

I need to transfer all the chat history to PC because i really need to print it out. But I can;t take screenshot of the thing. It would be a thousand screenshots. Wechat is such a fail. Why wouldnt they allow user to transfer the chat history? I follow this instruction. But when i go to Setting for the PC version of wechat. All i see it Backup on PC. I dont see Backup on Phone.
currently the developer of WeChat does not offer users a tool to transfer chats from phone to computer and print them out. at this moment, we have to use third party tools for that. For example, this Wechat data recovery can help export WeChat messages to HTML files on computer so users can easily print them out using their web browser.

i have Wechat on Nokia N8 (Symbian) ver. 4.2.0. (i cant find newer).
Now I have Android 4.3 and Wechat in version 6.3.16.
How can I transfer all data (complete profile, but important is contact and chat) from Symbian to Android?
I tried webWechat, but it says “Unable to upload. Please try again.” Again and again not happens.
When i try only Contact backup, i can only type my password and after pressing OK, nothing happend.

i have not used WeChat for Symbian. the WeChat for iOS and Android has a feature called ‘Chat Log Migration’ which can help us move WeChat data from phone to phone. you can also double check the WeChat on your Nokia phone see if it can also be found. you can see how to move WeChat data to new phone for more info about this built-in data migration tool.
